Trashie Denim Deigned by Vickie Long

Founder of Trashie Denim Ms. Vickie Long, I know her as Aunt Vickie
was inspired to EMBRACE her Natural Beauty by developing her own denim line.

Q:Where do you get your inspiration?
A: My inspiration came from noticing ripped jeans costing too much. The pair of jeans I wanted cost $500-$1,000. I was inspired by saying "I can do this"
Q:When did you realize you wanted to become a fashion designer and how long have you worked as a designer?
A: I've been designing clothes for over 30 years. I am always putting different pieces together. I've always wore jeans. I've always loved fashion and denim. My bedroom growing up was denim. Jean have been a part of my life. I didn't go to many parties because the attire was "No Jeans". I've been wearing wholly jeans all my life. I hosted a party in 2005 or 2006 called Riches to Rags and every one had on ripped up jeans that I designed.
(Trashie Denim Jeans & Jacket set)

( Dress up Trashie Denim with accessories)
Q: Describe the general process you go through to design and realize a piece of clothing?
A: Trashie Denim is the type of jeans that you dress it up or down! And keep it moving!! I always look at different clothing magazines & want to redesign the clothing by adding my special touch. I love Levis plain  jeans"dress down" & Ralph Lauren jeans "dress up". I redesign and rip up name brand jeans. I also search the Internet for designers to check to see what is my competition. I design on paper & dreams. I don't not have a production line its only me!! :)
Designing Trashie Denim Steps:
  • Get a pair of denim
  • Rip them up to my customers liking or mine (with my special tool)
  • Clorox the jeans
  • Wash & Dry the jeans
When the jeans are ready I am smiling at my creation.

Q: Where do you buy your fabrics and other sewing materials?
A:  I go thrifting just about everyday to purchase different styles of denim and jeans. I get my other supplies from Michael's & Hobby Lobby.
Q: How would you define your personal style?
A:  I make sure all my customers are happy!! I enjoy talking & meeting people. I never meet strangers. I am a very friendly people's person and I will give you 1/2 of my last.
Q:What are some of your fashion goals?
A: Some of my fashion goals are to make affordable Trashie Denim for all type of income customers. I don't want anyone to hesitate to buy a pair of Trashie Denim because of my prices. But when I blow up it will be just a little higher but still affordable and there you have it Vickie Long CEO of Trashie Denim. I am adding color to my Trashie Denim Jeans.  My jewelry line is coming soon. I make Trashie Denim bracelets &  earring  too.

Q: Where can readers buy a pair of your Trashie Denim Jeans?
A: You can email me at trashiedenim2u@gmail.com. I am on Instagram @Vickielong. My website/blog is coming very soon. Trashie Denim is mobile so, you can contact to me if you would like for me to set up a vendor table or booth.  Oh one more thing Trashie Denim is customized clothing and one of kind pieces for any shape or size.

Natural Beauty Kamille Davis Weight Loss Journey

Natural Beauty Kamille Davis started her weight loss journey in early July after receiving life threatening new from doctors telling her to change her life style. She began working out and changing her eating habits early July. At her starting point her weight was 273 pounds. Just four months later she  now weights 226 pounds. She committed herself to eating better, and working out daily. She now sees her life changing for the better. She sees herself opening up more being more social. She also see doors opening that would have never been opened before.

Q: What inspired you to being this extreme physical fitness journey?
A:  I always wanted to live and be healthy. But never made the time for myself. But what really kicked me into gear was when my health started to turn for the bad. And my doctors were warning me of a bad future to come if I didn't make some changes.

Q: What are you doing to lose the weight?
A: My focus is not to just diet, I'm focusing on a lifestyle change. So I have changed the way I eat, as in what I eat, when I eat, and portion control . And I also love working out I've become addicted to working out. I love cardio training and now I have taken to strength training as well.

Q: What are your long term and short term goals?
A:My short term goals were to just lose a few pounds and work on getting my health to a better place. But now my long term goals have changed to not just wanted to loose a few pounds but live and be healthy.
Q: Since you have started this journey, have you noticed a change in the way you feel?
A. I have, I'm much happier I find myself wanting to be more outgoing. Wanting to be around people and make new friends instead of just hiding in the background like I'm use to doing.

Q: How often do you excise and what is your excise?
A. Like I stated early I am now addicted to working out. In a perfect week I will workout 4 to 5 days a week but with life sometimes that doesn't happen. So usually I get in at the minimum 3 workouts in. I love doing cardio and now I like strength training as well.

Q: What advice do you have for people who are struggling with weight loss?
A:The advice I could offer people struggling is just to get started and to stay with it. Once you get started it will change your life for the better and you will be much happier.

Thank you so much Natural Beauty Kamille Davis for sharing your weight loss journey with us! Natural Beauties, if you have a story to share with the group please feel free to email me at tierra@tierranicole.com.

I am not a big make up girl. I will wear make up for special occassions or just to dress up and look cute for myself. I don't apply make up everyday. Q&A: Houston Natural Hair Blogger Lisa Clay of This Hair of Mine

Hey Lisa! I want to let you know I love your blog and all that you do for the natural community. For you natural beauties who do not know This Hair of Mine, she is a personal blogger for those who are natural, transitioning, or considering going natural! Her motto is “Learn to LOVE what you’ve got!” She has been natural since 2004. Lisa I would like for you share with us the good, the bad, and the not so pretty of your natural journey.

Q: What inspired you to go natural?
I had been feeling uninspired by my relaxed hair…it was limp and lifeless!  I had been wearing it in a ponytail and decided I wanted a change so I did the Big Chop on July 30, 2004 and haven’t looked back since!

Q: Did you transition, if so for how long?
I didn’t transition so much as I opted to cut my hair instead of getting another perm.  My Big Chop was the best decision for me, especially at that time in my life.

Q: What is the good in your natural journey?
It’s been SO much good in my natural journey; it’s hard to put into words!  I think first and most important is learning to love my hair…all of my hair…the good and the bad!  Having a supportive community has been my favorite surprise on my journey.  I’ve met so many wonderful curly girls, my curlfriends, and have developed some awesome relationships with people, brands and organizations all in the name of natural hair.  It’s been amazing!

Q: What has been your biggest learning experience in your natural journey?
I would say the biggest learning experience has been understanding the intricacies of natural hair.  For the longest time I continued the process of blow drying and flat ironing my hair because I didn’t know what to do with it.  Once I figured out that my hair likes natural products & ingredients, and I learned how to detangle, cleanse and style properly, it’s been a much smoother process for the most part.  I would also add that it’s so important not to get caught up in the hype.  The most important thing in your natural hair journey is YOUR hair, not someone else’s!

Q: What is the meaning behind This Hair of Mine? How did you come up with such creative blogger’s name?
I wish I could say it was some cool revelation but I was detangling my hair in the shower, and after some serious struggling I just kind of gave up.  I cursed This Hair of Mine…and I was like “AAAHHH!!! That’s it!”  After I finally completed the task at hand, I really thought about it because so many people have had that same experience, and I knew people would be able to relate.

Q: For the newbies transitioning to natural or for those how just the Big Chop, what are your top five tips to maintain natural hair at home?
Top home hair care tips from This Hair of Mine:  Deep condition weekly!  Detangle carefully…those curls are fragile!  Don’t wear a style too long…trust me, the aftermath is NOT fun!  Moisturizing and sealing are VITAL to the health of your hair!  Don’t hold on to those raggedy ends…your hair will look and feel much better with regular trims (8-12 weeks)

Q: What is your daily hair care regimen?
When my hair is in a twist-out I love to use light leave-in conditioner or spray (KBB Sweet Ambrosia & DB Herbal Leave-In are just a couple of my faves).  I usually alternate between doing a pineapple at night (pulling my hair up in a high, loose ponytail) at night or chunky twists, depending on how tight my curls are.  I am a HUGE fan of the LOC method for moisture retention (liquid followed by oil followed by cream) and that keeps my hair soft and shiny for multi-day hair.  I’ve also added mid-week cowashes back into my regimen to improve manageability.

Thank you so much Lisa, This Hair of Mine for sharing your natural journey with us! Natural Beauties you can check out This Hair of Mine on her website, www.thishairofmine.com or on social media sites Facebook: www.facebook.com/ThisHair, YouTube: www.youtube.com/LisaMsLisa , and Twitter: www.twitter.com/BigHairBrwnEyes

Protective Style Braided Hi Bun!

I love wearing my hair in protective styles because it is low maintenance and no manipulation to the hair. All I do is tie my hair down with a satin scarf and sleep with a satin pillow case. Every morning and night I will apply carrot oil to my scalp and edges to keep my hair moisturized. This style can last for at least 3-4 weeks or longer depending on how you take care of hair. I went to Marketia Pruitt of Touch of Heaven Salon in Humble, TX last week to get my hair done. She gave me a protective braided Hi Bun style with a heart design in the back. This style is very unique and creative.

Q&A: Best Friends Cynthia Cortez and Liana Drain Take on an Extreme Physical Fitness Journey!

Cynthia and Liana are two best friends that have recently started a weight loss journey together. They are ready to take on any challenges that come their way. Both ladies being in the 400's, they have made a commitment that enough is enough it is time to live a healthy life style.

Q: What inspired you all to being this extreme physical fitness journey?
A: Our weight really began to sky rocket to an extreme number and we both knew we had to do something. With both of us being over 400 lbs., we would found ourselves being limited to the things we could and could not do. For example: If we go to a restaurant we would call ahead of time if we had never been there before to see if they had regular chairs with no arms and if they did not we could not eat there because the shame of not being able to fit would be unbearable. Also, something as simple as tying our own shoes became a challenge, so this is why we had to go extreme because we were at extreme weights.
Q: What are you all doing to lose the weight?
A: We both have tried lots of other diets and as you can tell they all failed, so now we are just doing it the good old fashion way, eating right and working out every day. So far it has worked out well for us.
Q: What are your long term and short term goals?
A:  Long term goals are to keep the weight off and eventually have babies. To have children is one of our most desired dreams but we have been told over and over again the reason for our infertility is because of our weight. Just to think that this weight is keeping us from becoming parents is heart breaking especially Cynthia since she is married. Short term goals would be to stay focused like I said before we have tried all kinds of stuff and never completed any of them whenever we would get tired we just quite, so I guess the main thing would be to stay strong, focused and determined. Our mission to reach 200lbs and lose at least 200lbs. in a year.

Q: Since you all have started this journey, have you noticed a change in the way you feel?
A: Of course, we feel so much better not just physical but spirituality as well. God is concerned about everything that concerns us including weight loss, so every time were feeling like we can’t go on anymore we pray to him and ask him to give us strength and it seems like out of nowhere we feel so much better, but on the physical side we find it a little easier to just get up and work out at first it was a battle for us to just walk for 5 minutes now we are up to 75 minutes on the treadmill, so that’s awesome!!!
Q: What is the meaning behind B.est F.riend F.itness? How did you all come up with such creative name?
A:  Well if you did not  know we are actually best friends and co- workers
J We go through everything best friends go through so we were doing what comes naturally to best friends to help one another out and be that support system for each other. So it was just befitting that the name had something to do with best friends and we are getting fit hints the name Best Friend Fitness.
Q: Where do you see Best Friend Fitness in the next 5 years?
A: Doing BIG things spreading the love of Christ showing men, women, boys, and girls that with help of God anything is possible even weight loss, to be able to motivate people to say “Today I want to make a change a live a healthier life” because of what they saw or heard about Best Friend Fitness, and to be an example to those who may not think losing over 200 lbs. It is possible. I guess to sum it up we would love for Best Friend Fitness to become a house hold name and when people think about Best Friend Fitness they get that boast of confidence they need to make it through that last ½ of a mile at the track, because they remember “Where two or more are joined together getting fit Best friend Fitness is in the mix!”

Thank you so much Cynthia and Liana, B.est F.riends F.ittness (BFF) for sharing your physical fitness journey with us! Natural Beatuies you can check out Cynthia and Liana on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/BestFriendFitness , YouTube search under B.est F.riend F.itness.

Coming up: Next Saturday October 6th B. est F.riends F.ittness and I will be participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for The Cure Breast Cancer Walk. Feel free to join us as we spread Breast Cancer Awareness.  It's not too late sign up for  the walk, www.komen-houston.org.
